Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great popularity with her stories she tells of her young heartbreak. Swift had a passion for music at an early time. She swiftly rose through the ranks, starting with roles in children's theater before performing in front of a huge crowd. Swift was 11 years old when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game. The following year she started writing her own songs, and also picked up the guitar. Swift took inspiration from artists from the country genre, such as Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks and now the Chicks to come up with original songs that reflected the loneliness she felt at the age of 13. Swift was 13 when her parents made the choice to dispose of their Pennsylvania farm to relocate into Hendersonville Tennessee. She could then devote all of her efforts to contacting label labels from the country scene in Nashville.
